## About

Fan Chang Tien: Rhythm of the Southern Brush looks at the career of Fan Chang Tien (1907–1987), a key figure in Singapore's Chinese ink art. It runs at National Gallery Singapore from 16 October 2026 to 31 January 2027. ## About the exhibition

Over 80 paintings, poems and archival items trace Fan's move south from China through Thailand to Singapore in 1956, in five sections: Moving South, Nurturing the Self, Rejoicing in the Everyday, Wandering through Nature and Tending the Garden. The show presents him as a scholar-artist and teacher in the Chinese literati tradition, beyond his reputation as the 'Gardener' who nurtured local ink painters.
