About Capitol Theatre
The theatre was completed in 1930 next to Namazie Mansions and was once touted as the largest cinema in the East. It was commissioned by the businessman Mirza Mohamed Ali Namazie; the Shaw Organisation had acquired the buildings by 1946, made the theatre its flagship and operated it until 1998. The buildings received conservation status in 2007, were restored, and fully reopened in 2018 (Roots.gov.sg (National Heritage Board), accessed 8 Nov 2026)
