About Victoria Theatre
It is the older of the two buildings in the Victoria complex: it was built between 1855 and 1862 as the Town Hall and converted into a theatre in 1908. Seating is 380 in the stalls and 234 in the circle, including 78 seats over the orchestra pit; when the pit is in use, capacity is 536. The stage can add an extended forestage or an orchestra pit, and the Stalls area is wheelchair accessible. Cast-iron parts from the old theatre's chairs were re-used in the new design (Arts House Group, Victoria Theatre, accessed 8 Nov 2026)
Victoria Theatre hosted the first public performance of "Majulah Singapura", now the national anthem, in 1958. The complex was gazetted a National Monument in 1992, reopened in 2014 after restoration and has been managed by Arts House Group since 2017 (Arts House Group, accessed 8 Nov 2026)
